Description

Seems like a constantly evolving thing. we should keep it up to date so folks don't keep having the same ideas/confusions

A few notes from tracing most of the circuits in the building:

  1. Our overall building service is anemic and is split between two breaker boxes (that I know of). I believe we only have access to 200 Amps currently.
  1. The outlets that are on a given circuit is sometimes chaotic. For instance the server room ceiling outlet is on the same circuit as the outlet above the desk at the rear exit as well as an outlet in the kitchen.
  1. Our primary breaker box is has no physical space left for breakers.
  1. Primary breaker box is only 200 Amps, which is not much for the space.
  1. Many of the circuits have very little load bc its mostly just lights and laptop work stations. It would be nice to consolidate lights and low power draw circuits to free up more server power capacity.
  1. According to the building manager, the current electrical system is grandfathered in. Any minor changes such as re-arranging the breaker panel or upgrading small breakers to larger current load would likely trigger significant required upgrades... likely amounting to a full electrical over haul.
  1. IF we want more current capacity for 220V circuits(of which we only have one 20Amp circuit for servers) we basically need to deal with upgrading the service to the building or resolving the split service situation in some other way.
