Description
would be cool to get a BBS set up, probably only accessible over:
- telnet on our local network (accessible via VPN)
- meshtastic
- dialup
Note:
See TracTickets
for help on using tickets.
Hell yeah!
A BBS is on the list of services for the Dial-Up ISP project (Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net)
telnet access would be easy via a Bastion host (VM)
Meshtastic I'm not sure about setting up so I would defer to those with better knowledge than I have
Dial-Up services are a heavy work-in-progress. We currently have telephone (and fax?) services running I believe provided by Cleeb. I've suggested "merging" the Asterisk (phone PBX) services so we can provide both voice and data all from a single VM but we've not had any discussions about it at this time.
An additional possibility would be re-wiring the (now otherwise redundant as CenturyLink removed service to the Gelb building) punch-down block located in the comms room (next to the ethernet patch panels). We could replace that with something like https://www.ebay.com/itm/126385040919 and connect them to the Cisco VG224's. This would let us re-use the existing telephone wiring within the building and transparently bridge it into Asterisk.
Dial-Up services are a medium-to-long-term project primarily based on my free time and finances to commit to purchasing the relevant hardware.
I have also reached out to the former admin of "2600.network" and asked if they would be willing to donate their old telco gear. This would significantly expedite the process and I will add to this ticket if I receive a response
